Kuala Lumpur, 30 April 2018 - Sime Darby Plantation (SDP) would like to acknowledge the discovery of another video depicting a person caught for stealing FFB bunches from the estate of our subsidiary, Sime Darby Plantation Liberia (SDPL).   A video recording of the incident, which we believe might have taken place sometime in February 2018, appears to show members from the Community Policing team, engaged by SDPL, mistreating the alleged perpetrator of the theft. SDPL has lodged a police report pertaining to the video for a thorough investigation.

We refer to reports by various news publications on what had transpired during the Liberia House of Representatives hearing on Thursday, April 19, 2018. At the hearing, management representatives from Sime Darby Plantation Liberia (SDPL), a subsidiary of SDP, were summoned to provide clarification on the mistreatment allegedly perpetrated by SDPL’s security officers against a Liberian citizen identified as John Davies, the incident of which was video recorded and spread via social media.

While we share Iceland’s concern over the alleged sustainability issues associated with palm oil, simply replacing palm oil with other vegetable oils will only impose more pressure on forests as more land is needed to produce the same amount of oil.

Kuala Lumpur, 22 February 2018 – Sime Darby Plantation Berhad (SD Plantation) reported a profit before tax (PBT) of RM637 million and a net profit of RM429 million for the second quarter ended 31 December 2017 (Q2 FY2018). This represents an increase of 35 percent and 34 percent respectively, against the same period in the last financial year. The improved performance was attributable to higher earnings from Upstream Malaysia and reduced finance costs as a result of lower borrowings.
