The event was officiated by H.M. King Carl Gustaf XVI and ended with a speech by H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria on the UN’s 17 global goals. Dr Simon Lord, Chief Sustainability Officer of Sime Darby Plantation Berhad, was invited as a speaker on an Action Lab titled ‘Corporate Impact on community and environment: Ensuring children’s well-being around supply chains and operations’ and a Plenary session titled ‘Taking Responsibility – Managing Community and Environmental Impact.’ Sime Darby Plantation Berhad was Malaysia’s sole representative company at the event.

“Sime Darby was the first plantation company to develop a Child Protection Policy back in 2010, and followed up with its Human Rights Charter and Responsible Agriculture Charter in 2016 and 2017 respectively. Our responsibilities as a corporate entity are bound by the fact that by employing our workers, we are also bringing in their families to become part of our organisation. What is needed for the protection and advancement of child rights is action, not mere conversations on commitments to protect these rights,” said Dr Lord, during his sessions.
