Sime Darby Plantation (SDP) Announces Exit from the HCSA Steering Committee
Kuala Lumpur, 10 June 2020- Sime Darby Plantation (SDP) wishes to announce our exit from the High Carbon Stock Approach (HCSA) Steering Group Committee with immediate effect. In view of our involvement in numerous global external platforms worldwide, we believe this decision will allow us to focus more on the implementation of SDP’s on-ground commitments throughout our global operations and supply chain.
As part of the SDP’s ambition towards creating a deforestation-free palm oil supply chain, we remain committed to continue implementing the HCSA toolkit as per the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) Principles and Criteria. This is in addition to our strict adherence to SDP’s own Responsible Agriculture Charter, Working with Suppliers to Draw the Line on Deforestation policy as well as our various other established sustainability standards and practices.
SDP has conveyed our decision to the HCSA Secretariat, and we take this opportunity to thank the other members of the HCSA Steering Group for all the constructive engagements we have had during our involvement.
SDP is proud and appreciative of the opportunity to have been a member of the HCSA Steering Group, and in jointly being involved in making progress on the methodology to conserve, restore and monitor HCS forests. We are looking forward to any future update and enhancement on the HCSA toolkit. Should any other viable opportunity arises in the future, we are also open to consider potential collaboration with the HCSA Steering Group again.
