Responsible Sourcing Guidelines

As a signatory to the Sustainable Palm Oil Manifesto (SPOM), Sime Darby Plantation has pledged to no deforestation, protecting peat land and to drive positive socio – economic impact for people and communities in the plantations it owns and manages. These commitments extend to smallholders and outgrowers, whether contracted or independent, from whom the company sources its Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) and other palm products.

In alignment to SDP’s commitment to sustainability, Sime Darby Plantation has developed a Responsible Sourcing Guideline (RSG) to lead our decision in sourcing externally. It includes:
  1. Guidelines for Sourcing of Third Party Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB)
  2. Guidelines for Sourcing of Third Party Crude Palm Oil (CPO) and its Derivatives
The RSG covers sustainability areas such as legal requirements, avoiding deforestation of primary forests and HCV areas, human rights protection, and implementation of social and environmental best practices. SDP will not engage third-party suppliers that do not comply with the mandatory requirements in the RSG.

It is applicable to all SDP’s third party suppliers including dealers in all countries where SDP operates, and is currently being rolled out in phases. Our suppliers will not only have to ensure compliance with relevant obligations, but to also have a mechanism in place to implement the requirements as appropriate and as deemed practical without compromising SDP’s social and environmental obligations. They must also be able to demonstrate traceability and transparency of their supply chain, up to the supplying farm/estates.
