Peatland Planting Policy

In regards to our past plantings on peat, we employ best management practices aimed at minimising the risk of peat fires and subsequent carbon emissions. Our water management technique ensures that the water table is maintained at around 50 –70 cm below the surface to reduce the decomposition rates of dried peats.

We are also committed to the maintenance of existing vegetation in and adjacent to our oil palm plantations in peatlands in both Malaysia and Indonesia. We also engage with local communities to educate them on sustainable management of peat areas in an effort to prevent slash and burn activities.
