Mohd Haris Mohd Arshad, 46, a Malaysian, was appointed as the Chief Operating Officer, Downstream of Sime Darby Plantation Berhad (SDPB) on 1 December 2017 to lead the Downstream business of the SDPB Group.
 
He began his career in 1995 as a trader with Cargill in Malaysia and later moved to the Philippines where he was involved in, among others, hedging activities in order to establish trading positions and ensuring uninterrupted supply of feedstock into refineries, and assisted with the company’s lauric oil merchandising.
 
In 2001, he joined Nestle initially based in Kuala Lumpur before moving to London in 2004 to join the company’s global cocoa procurement and price risk management desk. In 2006, he relocated to Singapore to establish Nestle’s Commodity Procurement Centre for Asia, Oceania and Africa Regions and he was appointed as the General Manager and Head of Global Oils and Fats. Under these capacities, he was responsible for leading supplier development works as well as regional oils and fats procurement initiatives.
 
In 2010, he joined Unilever Plc (Singapore) as Director of Commodity Risk Management where he was in charge of managing Unilever’s global oils and fats price exposure within the company’s annual spend budget, developing market analysis and price forecasting, and introduced the use of optimal and appropriate hedging tools.
 
In 2014, he joined SDPB as the Head of Global Trading and Marketing (GTM)/Downstream Manufacturing (DM) where he oversees the growth contribution of both GTM and DM to the overall revenue stream of SDPB.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Arizona, The United States of America in 1994.
